Good fit but curb chain catches on open loops

This bit fits well but I don't like the open loops. The curb chain is too long. It and my glove have gotten caught on the open loops inside the ring of the bit. This seems unsafe. I'm trying to figure out if this is something I can work around or if this bit just won't work.
